A Home Health Aide (HHA) is a compassionate and trained caregiver who assists individuals needing help with self-care at home. Many of those they support are elderly, have long-term disabilities, or are recovering from serious illnesses or surgeries. Rather than working in a busy hospital, HHAs visit clients' homes to assist with essential daily activities. These basic routines, known as Activities of Daily Living, include bathing, dressing, meal preparation, moving safely around the home, and monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse. Serving as an HHA bridges the gap between independent living and care in hospitals or nursing homes. HHAs work under the formal supervision of registered nurses and healthcare providers. Although they do not diagnose illnesses or perform surgeries, they act as the essential daily 'eyes and ears' of the clinical team. By noticing changes in a client's condition—like a new cough, swelling, confusion, or poor appetite—and promptly reporting these to the supervising nurse, HHAs help prevent medical emergencies and reduce hospital readmissions.

Their comforting presence, careful observation, and personalized attention enable vulnerable clients to stay safe, dignified, and comfortable in their own homes.
